SUMMARY:Workshop: Community Building Skills Training (CBST)
DESCRIPTION:“There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace\, and ultimately no life\, without community.” Scott Peck\, author of The Road Less Travelled and The Different Drum \nWhat is Community Building? Community Building is a group dynamics method developed by American psychiatrist M. Scott Peck\, and today disseminated by Edward Groody\, founder of Community Building International (CBI). According to CBI’s definition\, true community is an experience that is currently rare in everyday life. This experience involves deep communication\, connection\, honesty\, vulnerability\, and a sense of belonging. It also requires learning and practicing certain skills\, principles\, and ways of interacting with one another. Edward Groody defines true community as “an experience of authentic connection\, unusual safety\, and extraordinary respect.” \nGoals of the workshop \n\nCreate authentic community\nDevelop authentic and non-violent communication\nPractice mindfulness and emotional intelligence\nUnderstand human differences\nOpen space for silence\, sharing\, and genuine encounter\nDeepen spiritual experience\n\nHow does it work? \n“How strange that we should ordinarily feel compelled to hide our wounds when we are all wounded! Community requires the ability to expose our wounds and weaknesses to our fellow creatures. It also requires the ability to be affected by the wounds of others… But even more important is the love that arises among us when we share\, both ways\, our woundedness.” Scott Peck \nThe workshop Community Building Skills Training isn’t therapy or a discussion. Through shared circles and practical exercises\, participants develop communication skills and deepen their connection with themselves\, with others\, and with the spiritual dimension. \nThe group typically moves through four stages of community formation and development: \n\nPseudo-community\nChaos\nEmptiness\nCommunity\n\nThe experience can sometimes be emotionally intense\, so we ask more sensitive individuals or those currently in therapy to assess their participation or consult a healthcare professional. The facilitators provide structure and guidance and ensure group safety\, but do not evaluate or direct participants’ personal experiences. \nThe workshop lasts 2.5 days and requires full attendance. \nWho is it for? The workshop is designed for those interested in developing deeper and more authentic relationships\, fostering open communication in a safe and respectful environment\, while deepening their personal development and spiritual experience. It is also aimed at those who wish to support others in this process or who seek\, within their teams\, organisations\, and communities\, ways to deepen collaboration and coexistence. The workshop will be held in Portuguese\, with English translation. English-speaking participants are also welcome; translation will be provided both into English and Portuguese. \nVenue – Biovilla: The workshop will take place at Biovilla\, a Portuguese cooperative dedicated to sustainable development and ecological\, social\, and economic regeneration\, located in the Arrábida Natural Park\, close to Palmela city. \nAccommodation: The venue offers triple and quadruple rooms with private bathrooms. \nMeals: Meals (vegetarian for all participants) are fully included in the participation fee and cover breakfast\, lunch\, dinner\, and coffee breaks. \nPrice:  The price includes: \n\nall workshop costs\ntwo nights of accommodation at Biovilla (Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October)\nmeals (2 dinners\, 3 lunches\, and coffee breaks)\n\nEarly Bird – Registration until 30 June.
